I'd love to have the opportunity to have a closer look at the curriculum, perhaps even an open and frank discussion between teachers and parents about the best possible balance should be the way forward...

Hi Erica. Im not sure Im advocating the full sex talk at 4. I think just talking about body parts with their correct names and not being embarrassed about it would be a huge step in the right direction. The problem is that, once they get to junior school age, they start to get self conscious and even if you have given them an open mind about their bodies, the tendency is to go all silly and hide themselves. I would like to see how the curriculum is being planned so I can assess it properly but we do need to bring up a generation who are not afraid to talk about sex and love and emotions candidly.

I think we should be more open, but not at four years old - I think it's completely unnecessary to understand anything more than about friendship, respect, and perhaps a little anatomical knowledge at that age. At eight or nine, yes, then start discussing the finer workings of an adult relationship - but four is just too early in my opinion.

Blogger is a definite step up from Livejournal.com :P

I like that it is so easy to get started. I have spent many years being an avid fan of other peoples blogs but have never felt that I ahve had anything worth blogging about. I am about to become a parent for the first time and this that this huge change in my life will be something I would like to write about and keep a record of, and I hope to interact with other parents at various stages of parent hood for support and advice etc through blogging.

I'd love to hear some answers. Last week I finally - on a quiet day - let my two and half year old run loose in the supermarket. With strict instructions NOT to go too far from mummy. Which of course she didn't because she's a smart kid. But I? I didn't breath until we were back hand-in-hand and on our way home. Over-protective doesn't even begin to describe it and yet I promised myself not to turn into my fearful mother. Right. That's not gonna happen.

That's hilarious, I've been doing internet grocery shopping for over 2 years (since my daughter was born!) and I've never had any amusing substitutions like that - perhaps Tesco are just boring...

My teen is very conscientious about taking all her empty beer cans and alcopop bottles to the bottle bank. She could just put them in the recycling sack so I suspect it's more a case of her not wanting me to know how many she's had *sigh*
